This price is a private tour for a maximum of 5 guests (If you have a small or a larger group we have different price and discount), allowing you to enjoy Atotonilco at a relaxed pace with more personal attention from your certified local guide. With a small private group, you'll have more time to ask questions, appreciate the details of the Sanctuary, take photos, and enjoy a more intimate and meaningful experience.
Just a short 20-minute drive from San Miguel de Allende lies the Sanctuary of Jesús Nazareno de Atotonilco, a remarkable place where Mexican history, sacred art, and local traditions come together. Known for its extraordinary 18th-century murals covering the walls and ceilings, the Sanctuary is often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of Mexico.” Together with the historic center of San Miguel de Allende, it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.
Your local guide will take you beyond what you see on the walls, explaining the stories, symbolism, and religious traditions behind this unique sanctuary. Atotonilco also played an important role in Mexico’s fight for independence. During our visit, you’ll discover the story behind this historic moment and its connection to San Miguel de Allende.
Inside the Sanctuary, we’ll respectfully explore its beautifully decorated spaces and chapels, including the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of Loreto, Calvary, and the Holy Sepulchre, while admiring the remarkable paintings that extend from the entrance toward the altar.

After visiting the Sanctuary, take some time to experience the local atmosphere outside, where small vendors offer traditional crafts and regional favorites such as gorditas, salsa de molcajete, quesadillas, sopes, handmade tortillas, and refreshing aguas frescas.
Time to enjoy one of our favorite parts of the experience: a taste of authentic local food.
Included per person:
* 2 traditional gorditas
* 1 agua fresca or café de olla
Choose your favorite gordita fillings and enjoy them freshly prepared by local cooks. It's a simple, delicious way to experience Atotonilco beyond its history and art, just like a local!
Experience a quieter, more traditional side of the region, where local customs and everyday life are still part of the charm.
Food is part of the experience! Sit down like a local, enjoy freshly prepared gorditas, and discover the authentic flavors and warm hospitality of Atotonilco.
Discover a place where history, sacred art, faith, and Mexican traditions come together in one unforgettable experience.
